Remembering Our Dave
I remember vividly the afternoon of Friday 23rd November 1973. I was 11 years old and made the usual trip back from school. The
bus to The Stork and walk down Newton Road, right down Royden Road, left into Widsor and walk all the way down to number 18. All very routine, nothing out of the ordinary. Well not until I got to the back door….
The thing I remember most is the silence. There was nobody home, mum wasn’t there. Now that had never happened before. Mum was always there, always ready with a snack, a jam cust being a particular favorite. Today was different but I soon worked out why. Today was the day we had waited for with such anticipation since on a Friday teatime months earlier when mum and dad broke the news to me and Linda. I was convinced they were finally agreeing to us getting a puppy, but the news was much bigger than that. Today was the day Our Dave, David Christopher Halsall, would make his entrance into the world and change our lives forever.
So I can’t have a blog site without a section set aside to remember Our Dave. To share some of the tales, photos and experiences we shared in the 47 years, 29 weeks and 2 days that he was with us. I would welcome contributions of text and photos from anyone with a tale to tell or a story to share. A celebration of the contribution he made to making our lives richer for knowing him.
